Keffe D has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for the 1996 murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur.
On Tuesday (Oct. 12), less than two months after being found guilty of first-degree murder, Duane “Keffe D” Davis appeared in a Las Vegas courtroom where he learned that he was sentenced to 20 years to life for first-degree murder and a consecutive 20-year sentence for the enhancement charge of using a deadly weapon.
“You don’t get to take a man from his family,” Judge Carli Kierny said before the sentencing. “You don’t get to take his very life, his whole future, from him and just walk away from it. Especially when that man is Tupac Shakur.”
Back in August, a jury convicted Keffe D of orchestrating the murder of ’Pac in retaliation for Keffe D’s nephew, Orlando Anderson, being jumped at a casino by Tupac and members of Death Row Records on the night the rapper was shot and killed near the Las Vegas Strip. Despite not committing the actual shooting, prosecutors say Keffe D provided the gun and was present during the drive-by that took Tupac’s life at the age of 25.
Keffe D has already indicated his plans to appeal the verdict. Now that he has been sentenced, he can officially file his appeal.
